The global defense industry is witnessing an unprecedented hiring spree, the fastest since the end of the Cold War. A recent Financial Times survey reveals that leading defense contractors in the U.S. and Europe are on track to hire tens of thousands of employees in 2024. This hiring surge is a direct response to escalating geopolitical tensions and a significant increase in military spending worldwide.

Major U.S. defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics, collectively have approximately 6,000 job openings. The survey indicates that the total workforce of the surveyed companies will increase by around 37,000 positions, nearly 10% of their current workforce. Jan Pie, Secretary-General of the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), highlighted that order volumes are at their highest since the end of the Cold War, creating a busy period for the defense sector.
